"Axxcept" Series for

The Governor's Awards in Support of the Arts

2005

2005

Governor's Award Recipients

Steve Immerman nominated as Commissioned Artist for the 2005 Wisconsin "Governor's Award in Support of the Arts"

Each year the Wisconsin Foundation for the Arts organizes the Governor's Awards in Support of the Arts recognizing extraordinary contributions to the vitality of the arts in local communities or statewide.  The awards are in three categories:  individual leaders, corporations or businesses, and community organizations.  A total of four awards are presented in a late fall ceremony at the Executive Residence in Madison.

Governor Jim Doyle and First Lady Jessica Doyle personally hosted the recognition.  The recipients received a personal framed citation highlighting their gifts to the arts that is signed by the Governor.  They also received a gift of original art created by Steve Immerman.

The Governor's Award ceremony, which was on November 2005,  premiered a  video illustrating recipients' gifts to the arts, along with a detailed segment on the commissioned artist.   A DVD  of the event is created and then aired around the holidays on Wisconsin commercial and public television stations.   A feature story on the commissioned artist appeared in the fall Arts Letter, of the Wisconsin Foundation for the Arts.

More than 125 individuals, businesses, and organizations whose contributions to Wisconsin's cultural life deserve recognition have been honored since the Governor's Awards were first presented in 1980.
